The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History

We have some amazing museums in Oslo. The most famous are the Munch Museum, The Viking ships and The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. The latter is a large area at Bygdøy, just on the outskirts of Oslo. It was founded in 1894.

The most amazing part of this museum, are the buildings I think. The museum has literally collected buildings from all over Norway. They have been dismantled, and moved to the museum. There they have been assembled again, and is now standing as a proof of Norwegian traditions since the 11th century.

One of the most amazing buildings are the Gol stave Church (Gol Stavkirke). This a wooden church, where the interior is dated as far back as 1216. Some details inside are even dated to 1157.

The interior is original, but the exterior are reconstructed after Borgund stave church (Borgund Stavkirke). The interior is an amazing sight, with the paintings and wooden carvings. Just as impressing are the roof with wooden details resembling the viking ships at Bygdøy.

Why is there a pig? The pig lives at a farm in the same area, and he was very happy to have his back schratched…

All prints are the John S Lens and BlacKeys B+W Film.
