As I have previously mentioned the local church means a lot to the community. Both to the people, and to our supporters of our great soccer team Vålerenga. Every match we start of by singing a song dedicated to the church. The church is from 1902. The 18th of september 1979, the church burned to the ground. Only the stone walls were left standing. Tragically, frescos and stainless glass paintings from Emanuel Vigeland were lost to the flames. Emanuel was the younger brother of the more famous Gustav Vigeland. Gustav made among many things, all the statues and decorations at the famous Vigelendsparken in Oslo. It took five years for the church to be rebuilt.
Wether you are a believer, or not, the church is in our heart, and stands for a symbol of the whole area. Here are some shots of the church. Prints are John S Lens, BlacKeys B+W and Pistil Film.
